Basic Information

Palyeongsan Mountain, the highest and most famous mountain in Goheung, is 608 meters above sea level.
In 2011, its value was reevaluated and it was promoted from a provincial park to a national park. The name “Palyeongsan” was given after a legend in which eight peaks were reflected in the washbasin of the Chinese king Yu. The eight peaks, which change from moment to moment, captivate people's hearts with their brilliant glow, as if they had a thousand faces.
Due to its steep mountainous terrain, which is dotted with oddly shaped rocks and stones, it is very popular among hiking and walking enthusiasts and is included in the list of the top 100 famous mountains in the country.
The magnificent view of the archipelago that spreads out before you when you reach the summit is famous for making anyone who sees it gasp in admiration. It is a must-try course for those who love hiking and walking.

- Origin of the name Palyeongsan Mountain
The original name of Palyeongsan Mountain was Paljeonsan Mountain. The Yeong of the name is a Chinese character for shadow, because the peaks of the mountain were reflected in the washbasin of the Chinese Emperor Yu. The letter Yeong is also recorded as a character for spirit on Kim Jeong-ho's Daedongyeojido.
The 1872 map of Heungyang-hyeon shows the name as Paljeonsan, and various names of the mountain have passed down.

Eight Peaks
Palyeongsan has eight peaks that rise in a straight line facing south: Peak 1, Yuyeongbong (491m), Peak 2, Seongjubong (538m), Peak 3, Saenghwangbong (564m), Peak 4, Sajabong (578m), Peak 5, Orobong (579m), Peak 6, Duryubong (596m), Peak 7, Chilsungbong (598m), and Peak 8, Jeokcheubong (608m).
